Metal Carports

Stability and durability are two qualities any outdoor shelter needs to have. In the case of metal carports, the galvanized steel frames already have such properties. Carports come in several forms, some of which may suit your specific needs. The typical design on the market is a galvanized steel frame with a polyethylene canopy; while the frame, in this case, may last 10 to 15 years, the canopy portion may need to be replaced after five because of wear and tear. Metal carports, on the other hand, are built to last, and many models, which cover one or more vehicles, may last up to 15 years.

All metal carports consist of a galvanized steel frame. The canopy portion has a valance style, with a peak at the top, rounded sides, and a slight overhang. As the roof is exposed directly to the elements, it is coated with silicon to last from 15 to 20 years. Nevertheless, the natural properties of the steel allow it to protect the vehicle under the shelter. All metal carports have natural UV resistance and a waterproof surface; additionally, the open design of these shelters allows for air circulation and prevents mold, mildew, and dry rot from forming on the surface of the vehicle.

Size and design are two qualities that vary with portable shelters. The typical metal carport, in this case, is large enough to cover an average-size car or truck. If you have more than one vehicle, some metal carports are large enough to shade multiple cars or small trucks. Other vehicles, such as boats and RVs, have specific dimensions and need a portable shelter to accommodate this. Various metal carports, in this case, are designed with specific dimensions for RVs and boats.

Like all portable shelters, metal carports need to be installed fully to be effective. The shelter is capable of withstanding high winds and heavy snowfalls but needs to be installed into the ground to have these properties. All shelters sold through Shelters of America come with an anchor kit, and, if the carport is to be permanent, the legs can be set in concrete before being added to the ground.
